La Sindrome di Icaro. Licini e 26 artisti tra cielo e terra. 12th September - 2nd November 2008

On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Osvaldo Licini’s death, we organized an exhibition on contemporary art focusing on the themes of flying and metamorphosis, with works of art from important private collections in Le Marche.

In the historic gardens of the Borgo, sculptures, installations and performances were inspired by these themes. Artists created “hybrid subjects”, multiple realities, beings born by the subconscious, rebellions against the shear sadness of everyday things and of our showbiz society. They have recreated a different image of the world and of the subjects that live in it. It appears in fact that Licini anticipated the films “Blade Runner” and “Wings of Desire”. Our 26 artists were inspired by the phantoms of Licini, comets and stars with female faces seen as borderline experiences between chaos and emotion, between symbolism and anti-symbolism. They allude to ancient cosmologies, to torn and sawn-up bodies. The main theme is the flying and metamorphosis of things and people that show us the arrival of strange hybrid creatures, of horrible and beautiful mutants in our future.

Catalogue: The bilingual (Italian/English) catalogue, with all works on show and clear-cut bibliographical notes, includes contributions by the Head Department of the Cultural Heritage of the Province of Ascoli Piceno Olimpia Gobbi, the art critic Marisa Vescovo, the Director of all Museums in the Province of Ascoli Piceno, Stefano Papetti, the President of the Association Giulia Panichi Pignatelli.
